Edith Mae Robertson Powell, 83, of Goshen, Virginia passed away Saturday, June 17, 2023 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Virginia.
She was born May 1, 1940 in Goshen, Virginia, the daughter of the late Wallace Steward Robertson and Allie Mae Ingram Robertson.
Edith was formerly employed as a seamstress, sewing machine operator, and homemaker.
She was a member of Bells Valley Worship Center, where she served as treasurer, and the Girl Scouts. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, shopping, and yard sales.
She is survived by her children: Linda Bethel and husband Dallas of Millboro, Sophia Shiplett of New Hope, Steward “Squeakie” Powell and wife Glenda of Staunton; grandchildren: Richard Bethel and wife Carrie, Kimberly Nieman and husband Jesse, Justin Stone; 12 great grandchildren; brother, Melvin Robertson of California; sisters: Martha Wilhelm of Buena Vista, Mildred Burke of Goshen; special family: Libby Morris, Sandy Campbell, Ronnie Campbell; and special friend, Dale Michael.
Edith was preceded in death by her husband, Clain “Hoot” Powell, Jr.; son-in-law, Pete Shiplett; and siblings: Steward Robertson, Mary Powell, Marvin Robertson, Marshall Robertson, Russell Robertson, JR Robertson.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 21, 2023 at Bells Valley Worship Center with Pastor Claudette Wilcher officiating. Interment will be in Craigsville Community Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Dale Michael, Richard Bethel, Jesse Nieman, Ty Bethel, Vaden Lewis, Xavier Lewis, and Carrie Bethel.
The family will receive friends the night before from 6-7 p.m. at Craigsville Funeral Home.
