Meet Garland
A native of the area with family ties in Craigsville, Clifton Forge, Fishersville, and parts of West Virginia, Garland Easter III didn’t originally have plans to work in the funeral service industry. Though his father had encouraged him to consider the field, it wasn’t until he had a conversation with a retired funeral director that he seriously pursued this new career. Garland initially set off for Texas, where his mother lived. She had recently graduated from the Dallas Institute of Funeral Services. There, Garland attended the same school.
While attending a family funeral, Garland’s mother confronted then-owner John Young about not giving Garland a callback for a job interview. Mr. Young promptly reached out, and Garland soon became Craigsville Funeral Home’s manager. Garland then purchased the business in May 2022 after managing it for eight years. He kept the name unchanged, believing it rightfully represents the Craigsville community.
